There is a natural fear in all of us of being exposed. When we were children, we might have hidden a broken vase behind the couch or blamed a sibling for the mess in the kitchen. Why? Because exposure meant consequences. Spiritually, John tells us something similar happens when people live in sin—they avoid the light of God because the light reveals truth.
